    We enjoyed first-class entertainment by local artists with Guest MCs Roy Galvan, Edmund Tijerina and Rob Thompson at Gramercy & Elmendorf, near the 1800 block of Fredericksburg Road. Kids learned to drum and to make papel picado, paper flowers and cascarones.

    Monday, 8/29, 7 PM:                       Dr. Char Miller

    We learned about the forces that shaped our neighborhoods at the Woodlawn Theatre, 1920 Fredericksburg Road

    Wednesday, 8/31, 7 PM:                R. Bret Ruiz

    We heard how the Deco movement influenced many aspects of 20th century life at Trey Martinez Fischer's Office, 1910 Fred Rd.

    Wednesday, 9/7, 7 PM:                  Charlotte Kahl

    We enjoyed the Old Spanish Trail Roadshow about the 1920s paved auto highway at Trey Martinez Fischer's Office, 1910 Fred. Road.

    Thursday, 9/8, 7 PM:                      Dr. Maggie Valentine

    We deepened our appreciation of Deco architecture at Trey Martinez Fischer's Office, 1910 Fred Rd.

    • Honest Charlie's Tattoos hosted the Encouraging Words Team to brighten up lives with free encouragement
    • Maria Bonita Imports celebrated its first anniversary with an open house and refreshments
    • Cool Crest Miniature Golf  celebrated its 68th year in the Deco District with discounts on miniature golf and free T-Shirts

     

    Deco Days is sponsored by the City of San Antonio's Office of Cultural Affairs through a Neighborhood Heritage Initiative Grant and produced by the Jefferson Woodlawn Lake Community Development Corporation (the "Deco District"), in partnership with the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center(www.guadalupeculturalarts.org) and Centro Cultural Aztlan (www.centroculturalaztlan.50megs.com).
